School Council is involved in many activities and events held throughout the year. Here is what we have initiated or participated in so far.

The ÉFT Cookbook is Here!!! École Forest Trail's first cookbook, Bon Appétit, is here! It contains 368 yummy recipes (that's 168 pages!) from parents, students and staff. ,,, Get your copy now before they sell out. They also make great hostess gifts and wonderful end-of- year gifts for piano teachers and coaches. Only $15 each or $13 each if you buy 3 or more. A copy is available in the office for you to browse before you place your order. Help support École Forest Trail by purchasing a cookbook or two (or three!). Order forms have been sent home or you can print your own using an attached file below.

All parents/guardians are invited to a FREE cultural presentation featuring well known storyteller and children's book author...ITAH SADUTuesday, May 11th at 7:00 p.mÉFT School Gym...Come out and enjoy a one-of-a-kind, extraordinary, fun-filled and insightful presentation. This event is focused on building an inclusive environment which values diversity. It will present parents, students and teachers with a dynamic cultural experience that depicts, supports and acknowledges different cultures in the community.....Itah Sadu will share world cultures through the oral tradition of storytelling, an art that is enjoyable for all ages. Storytelling, or oral tradition, speaks to literacy and belonging....Students will be attending presentations geared towards their age group during the school day.Please see the attached file for more information, or contact Marsha Griffiths at

Soirée Ciné This will be our last French Family Movie Night for this school year so come out and join in the fun. A free workshop designed to help families prepare their 10-14 year old to be responsible and safe while home alone. Child(ren) and parent(s) MUST attend together. Everyone can use a little help in the kitchen. Why not get the help AND in turn, help out your school! Anyone booking a session or ordering pre-made meals (6, 9, or 12 meals) during the months of April and May will be supporting École Forest Trail. Private parties can be booked for Tuesdays and Fridays. Our Facebook 101 & Twitter presentation was a fabulous success, for both students and parents. Students actively listened and questioned Chris Vollum about this information that is so integral to their lives, now and/or in the future. Following the presentation, students were discussing Facebook in the halls and on the playground, and some students arrived home after school and immediately altered their Facebook settings. For the parents at the session, it was clear that even the most Facebook-literate learned new cautions, and all found Chris an incredibly informed and enjoyable speaker. French Family Movie Night/Soirée Ciné will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010. Thank you to all who voted online. Your movie choice is... / Votre choix cinéma.. (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) Bring your pillows, blankets and teddy bears and enjoy a movie on our huge new screen. Pizza and popcorn are available by pre-order only. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Our doors will be open at 6:15 p.m. and the movie will start at 7 p.m.. We have a huge new movie screen and pizza provider. Orders are due by Wednesday, January 13th and tickets will be sent home by Friday, January 15th for the first 400 requests. A voluntary donation of $5 per family at the door would be greatly appreciated. |

An invitation is extended to parents to join Mrs. Briggs and Mr. Silvestri on the third Thursday of the selected months (October, November, January, February, April, May) for an informal chat about school-related topics of interest. The next Thursday's topic is a review of Forest Trail's 2008/2009 EQAO results and the School Imporvement Plan. Please join us for our next session on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss EQAO data. We look forward to seeing you then! |

Mark your calendars .. on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 the gym at École Forest Trail will be magically transformed into a Winter Wonderland Holiday Minishop where our students will have an opportunity to do some of their holiday shopping. We are pleased to be able to offer this giving experience to our students. Students will be able to purchase gifts for 2 significant adults in their lives (maximum of 2 gifts purchased per student). For example, mother, father, grandparent, caregiver, etc. Gifts will range in price from $1 to $4. |

"Third Thursday @ Three" New this year! Mrs. Briggs and Mr. Silvestri will host information sessions for interested parents on the third Thursday of the month (October, November, January, February, April, May) from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. in the school library. Topics will be school-related, e.g. School Effectiveness Plan, EQAO results, Literacy, etc. We welcome your suggestions too! Please join us for our next session on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss EQAO data. We look forward to seeing you then! |
