Facebook 101 & Twitter Presentation Update

Our Facebook 101 & Twitter presentation was a fabulous success, for both students and parents.  Students actively listened and questioned Chris Vollum about this information that is so integral to their lives, now and/or in the future.  Following the presentation, students were discussing Facebook in the halls and on the playground, and some students arrived home after school and immediately altered their Facebook settings.  For the parents at the session, it was clear that even the most Facebook-literate learned new cautions, and all found Chris an incredibly informed and enjoyable speaker.

For those of you who were not able to make the session, here are a few of the stories that Chris shared that made a huge impact on his audience ...

There was the story of a girl who posted a countdown to her family vacation on Facebook, and arrived back to find her family's home stripped bare - all their possissions stolen.

There was the story of an Ontario boy, on a hockey scholarship to a U.S. Universtiy who posted his strong feelings about a referee call in a hockey tournament, only to find himself off the hockey team with his scholarship revoked.

Several stories illustrated people losing their part time jobs because of things posted on Facebook, including two Oakville youths the week before the presentation.

If you missed the Facebook session and are interested in learning more about how to maximize the safe use of Facebook, it's not too late.  See the attached file for Chris' Facebook Privacy and Saftey Tips.   Chris Vollum's entire Facebook 101 course is available on an easy to follow CD for just $15 and comes with unlimited e-mail support.  If you are interested in purchasing the CD, please contact Chris at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Of course, Chris Vollum gives many presentations to schools and the community, so keep your eyes open for another opportunity to hear him speak.
