Fête d'Hiver / Carnaval at ÉFT
February 15th & 16th, 2012

All students are actively involved in the celebration.  There are grade specific crafts and activities assigned to educate our students on the many wonders of the festival.

Grade 1 - Making their own Carnaval Sash
Grade 2 - Creating a Bonhomme Puppet
Grade 3 - Crafting a Red PomPom to be worn on their Toque!
Grade 4 - Designing and creating a parade float
Grade 5 - Designing and building an Ice Castle (out of sugar cubes!)
Grade 6 - Preparing a skit depicting the Great Canoe Race held annually in Quebec City.   They'll present their skit to the primary students.
Grade 7 - Running the outdoor games and serving pancakes
Grade 8 - Playing the roles of Jesters and Bonhomme Bodyguards! Will also serve pancakes.

There are still some Volunteer Opportunities available:
Craft Preparation - Wednesday, Feb 8th 9:30AM to end of day (several volunteers needed)
Decorating - Tuesday, Feb 14th 12:30 to 3:30
Outdoor Games - Wednesday, Feb 15th - 11:15AM to 1:30PM (supervise outdoor games -- Grade 7 & 8 students help out too!)
Hot Chocolate – Wednesday, Feb 15th – 8:30AM to 1:30PM (prepare hot chocolate in the staffroom and serve outside during the games)
Serving Pancakes - Thursday, February 16th 8:30AM to 1:00PM

Two evenings with David Bouchard –Parent Information Night

What:  David Bouchard was named to the Order of Canada in 2010 and is an acclaimed author of children’s books and a champion of literacy. This former teacher and school principal has written more than 50 books in English and in French. His message focuses on books, reading and our specific responsibilities to our children and their literacy success.
He explores such topics such as the environment, history and the traditions and cultures of Canada’s Aboriginal communities. You will not be disappointed in his message, his energy or his passion for books, children and literacy. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for us all.

By now we trust you have all received and read the letter from our Superintendent of Education, Stuart Miller regarding the Boundary review in Ward 4 elementary schools.   A hard copy was sent home in backpack mail and an electronic copy was forwarded by our school's administration.  Click here for a copy of that letter.

The letter explains that a Boundary Review Committee (BRC) is being created with 2 representatives from each affected school.  These individuals must be selected and names forwarded to Mr. Miller by January 26th.

Input Requested for Long-Term Accommodation Plan

Parents & community members are invited to review and give feedback on the
Halton District School Board’s 2011-2012 Long-Term Accommodation Plan.  This plan addresses the existing and projected accommodation needs of students in elementary and secondary schools and identifies new capital project initiatives, such as the need for new schools.

Once the feedback is collected, staff will report back to the Board in February 2012.

A public meeting on Monday, February 13th from 7-9 p.m. at Abbey Park High School (cafeteria) will provide an opportunity for the BRC (Boundary Review Committee) to present boundary scenario(s) and invite public input.
